INFORMATION FOR BHAJAN GROUPS / SINGERS

For Thaipusam 2019, bhajan groups / singers need to take note of the following special provisions:

a) 35 static Music points

b) 2 live Urumi melam points (Short Street & Bras Basah Green)

c) 1 live nadaswaram/ thavil point (Hastings Road)

d) Music can now be played from 7.00am to 10.30pm. In previous years, the start time was 8.00am.

e) Singers can play handheld instruments like jalra and kartal while singing, as in previous years.

f) This year, bhajan singers can ADD hand held instrument ganjira to sing with.

g) Plus ONE ADDITIONAL approved percussion instrument – either a Thavil or Dhol or Khol. 

h) The ONE percussion instrument has to be registered.

i) NO amplification devices are allowed.

INFORMATION FOR URUMI MELAM GROUPS PLAYING INSIDE SRI SRINIVASA PERUMAL TEMPLE AND AT TWO LIVE MUSIC POINTS

SRI SRINIVASA PERUMAL TEMPLE (7.00am to 5.00pm)

1) All Urumi melam group members should register through their group leaders online at http://bitly.com/urumi2019 ahead of Thaipusam 2019.

2) Each group can register up to a maximum of 13 members. 13 wristbands will be issued to the group leader. Maximum number of members playing at any one time from the group is restricted to 13 only. 

3) On Thaipusam day (21/1/2019) pre-registered groups should come through Perumal Temple’s Gate 2. Registered groups will be ushered to their waiting area by a representative from the Music Management Team. Urumi melam group members should be dressed neatly and refrain from smoking and drinking alcohol.

4) Only members wearing a wristband are allowed to perform in the temple premises. Members of a group performing without a wristband will be advised to stop playing. 

5) Urumi melam groups must respect the sanctity of the temple and must maintain proper decorum. 

6) Mineral water and light refreshments will be provided at the waiting area for members. 

7) Sri Srinivasa Perumal Temple will not be responsible for any loss or damage to instruments played inside the temple premises.

8) Urumi melam groups will be allowed to play anywhere in the temple premises, including the carpark area. However, they must stop at the main gate to the temple or Rajagopuram. After  playing, they have to return back to their waiting area.

LIVE MUSIC POINTS (SHORT STREET & BRAS BASAH GREEN) (7.00am to 10.00pm)

1) Some Urumi melam groups will be rostered to play at one of the 2 live music points.

2) Sri Srinivasa Perumal Temple will not be responsible for any loss or damage to instruments played at the live music points.

3) Mineral water and light refreshments will be provided at the live music points. 

4) Urumi melam groups found violating any of the conditions of participation, will not be invited to play at next year’s Thaipusam festival.
